PostDateIconSunday, 05 September 2010 14:06 | PostAuthorIconWritten by Johann Nell | PDF | Print | E-mail

The Eastern Cape track championships for 2010 was a success in more than one way. A high standard of racing was maintained  throuhgout the two days.A few unknown riders have put up their hands for selection to be picked for the squad that will be travelling to Cape Town. Names that spring to mind is Luthando Fatyi in the Elite catogory, Marinus Prinsloo and Cuen Holland in the Junior catergory, Eugene Soule(under 14) and Bradley Gouveris in the uner 12 section. Some of the local riders will have  to put in a special effort to improve their standard of racing before the Soth African track championships in the Velodrome in Cape Town in early October. The track commission apologise to the  medal winners for the problem. It will be rectified in due course. Thanks to each and every one who contributed to the success of the 2 days and keep up the hard work to make a statement in Cape Town.

Friday evening's cycling had its highlight although it was the lesser exciting events of the championships. The evenings cycling was mostly made up of individual events. Highlights of the evening was a unofficial EC and SA record in the 2000 metre Individual Pursuit for Girls. Monique Gerber set a blistering time of 3:00:20 in a light south easterly wind. Saturday evening will have the spectators screaming and dancing when the bunch racing events are contested. The results of Friday evenings racing is attached.

Track Cycling in the Province

PostDateIconSaturday, 17 April 2010 15:06 | PostAuthorIconWritten by Track Chairman | PDF | Print | E-mail

Track cycling is on the rise in the province with a number of successful events that took place last year. The Track Commission is aiming to do the same again this year with a number of events planned. Training takes place at the Oval on Tuesday evenings from 17h00 and any interested cyclists are welcome to attend. As a number of cyclists do not have track bikes, there are a couple track bikes avilable for use at the Oval, all you need to do is bring along your pedals.

Road bikes are also welocome and a road bike section is included in most of the events for the roadies to take part
